Triton College to Host Third Annual Backpack Give Back Event
Triton College is proud to announce the third annual Backpack Give Back Event to be held on campus Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, 10 a.m.-noon. Backpacks filled with school supplies for families will be given away free of charge. Registration for the event is strongly encouraged.
“Triton is pleased to help offset some back-to-school costs for local families by providing school supplies. This is the third year we are hosting this event, but now due to COVID-19, so many families are facing strained financial situations and we are happy to pool resources with our community partners to help support students,” said Audrey Jonas, Director, Public Affairs and Community Relations.
To distribute the filled backpacks, Triton College is partnering with West40 ISC #2, an Intermediate Service Center that serves 38 school districts, 152 schools and about 95,000 students in West Cook County. Together the college and West40 will provide about 1,000 filled backpacks.
“West40 ISC #2 is grateful to have a chance to live out our mission by partnering with Triton College as we serve those in need of school supplies,” said Mark Klaisner, Ed.D., West40, Executive Director and President of the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools (IARSS).
Interested families are encouraged to register at www.triton.edu/backpack, but it is not a requirement. Backpacks will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition to pre-registering for the Backpack Give Back Event, families will be asked to remain in their vehicles and drive through campus to a specific distribution location to receive backpacks. Event traffic will be directed to arrive on Triton’s campus through the main driveway entrance off of Fifth Avenue and onto Hemingway Drive. Drivers should follow signage to the pickup spot at the H Building. Backpack Give Back attendees without cars will be served on a first-come, first-served basis on campus, also at the H Building. Social distancing guidelines will be enforced and all attendees in cars or on foot must wear masks.
