New CCNA Program
Beginning in spring 2021, the Computer Information Systems (CIS) Department will begin offering the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Program. This program is designed to get students ready to take the CCNA Certification Exam. Once completed, students will have the necessary requirements to begin a career in the IT field.
There are three classes in the program, but it is suggested that students begin with CIS 101 (Computer Systems & Business Applications) or CIS 102 (Pro Information Tech and Computer Science) if they do not have much computer experience or education. The whole program takes just three semesters. The classes are structured so that students take one per semester:
• CIS 216 – Introduction to Networks CCNA – 3 hrs.
• CIS 217 – Switching, Routing, Wireless Essentials CCNA – 3 hrs.
• CIS 218 – Enterprise Networking, Security, Automation CCNA – 3 hrs.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, “employment in computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 11% from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations.”
