2019 Educate to Liberate: Youth Social Justice Conference
Calling all area middle schoolers, high schoolers, and community members! Be empowered during this full day dedicated to learning and connecting around social justice.
This one-day conference will feature community builders, expert speakers, group panel discussions, and engaging activities, all happening throughout the Main Library, including:
- Stage reading by Echo Theater Collective
- Performance from the Oak Park and River Forest High School Hip Hop Club
- Keynote address from Dr. David Stovall, Professor of African American Studies, Criminology, and Law and Justice, University of Illinois at Chicago, and author of Born Out of Struggle: Critical Race Theory, School Creation, and the Politics of Interruption
The Educate to Liberate conference goals are to:
- Create space for youth to critically explore social justice topics
- Inspire youth to use knowledge and skills to take action in their community, and the world
- Equip youth with the necessary tools to address social justice issues
- Connect youth to community builders and peers to establish networks for leading ongoing efforts for community and global transformation
