AHL-E40 Activity Director
The 36 Hour Activity Director course will provide the student with an overall understanding of the basic duties and responsibilities of being an activity director/special care unit coordinator. It will provide participants with practical training skills to be able to lead an effective team and provide person-centered care. This class fulfills the 36-hour requirement to practice as an activity director in the state of Illinois. In addition, it will provide documented coursework in dementia care and ability-centered care as required for the state certified special care dementia unit coordinator.

Career Outlook
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment in the activity director field is expected to grow 10 percent from 2020-2030, which is average for all occupations. About 1,900 openings for activity directors/special care unit coordinators are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.
Median annual wage of activity directors/special care unit coordinators was $47,710 in May 2020.

This program prepares students for a successful and fulfilling career as a dialysis technician. Students learn how to provide quality care for patients in need of dialysis. Dialysis is the treatment required to cleanse the blood of toxins and excess fluids. Participants will learn how to function as a dialysis technician with proficient clinical skills and an understanding of nephrology care. This course will also provide students with a basic knowledge of machine technology, water treatment, dialyzer reprocessing and educational development. Students will be prepared to function as a dialysis technician under the supervision of the registered nurse or physician in a dialysis facility that provides dialysis treatment to the individuals diagnosed with acute or chronic kidney disease. Upon completion of the course the student is prepared to take the certification examination to be a certified dialysis technician.

The Dialysis Technician program is offered in partnership with Loyola University Medical Center 

Education Requirements
One year of medical experience as a nursing assistant, medical assistant, EMT or other work-related experience in the medical field with a basic knowledge of medical terminology and basic math skills who can fluently speak/write the English language.

HMS E58 – Medical Scribe 
Medical scribes are the newest addition to the medical team. They are trained medical information managers, specializing in charting physician-patient encounters during medical examinations. Medical scribes work directly with the provider or remotely. They enter patient information into an electronic health record in real time under the direction of a physician or independent practitioner. This 60 hour course will prepare students to document medical provider dictation and activities.

Requirements
A high school or GED education and one year experience in a health profession.

This comprehensive 50-hour Physical Therapy Aide Program prepares students for a career in the growing field of physical therapy. The physical therapy (PT) aide is generally responsible for carrying out the non-technical duties of physical therapy, such as preparing treatment areas, ordering devices and supplies, and transporting patients. Under the direction of a physical therapist or physical therapy assistant, an aide will provide services that help improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. The physical therapy aide may be employed in a variety of settings including: hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, home care agencies, outpatient clinics, community health centers and sports medicine clinics. Students will learn how to restore loco-motor function to the human body through alleviating and correcting movement dysfunction. Note: This program does not include a national or state certification as part of its overall objectives. 

Career Outlook
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of physical therapy assistants and aides is projected to grow 30 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. Demand for physical therapy services is expected to increase in response to the healthcare needs of an older population and growing rates of chronic conditions such as diabetes and obesity.

Salaries vary depending on experience, hours, and location. The median annual wage for physical therapist aides was $27,000 in May 2019.

HTH E61 - Veterinary Assistant II Program
Veterinary assistants are critical members of a veterinary staff. Learn the practical skills needed to assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians as you care for sick and injured animals. Learn how to assist with medical procedures, customer relations, and examinations. Students will also learn how a veterinary hospital operates by focusing on billing, workplace safety, and marketing in an externship. This 150 hour Veterinary Assistant Program prepares students for entry-level positions in the veterinary field. Participants will complete a 30 hour externship at an animal clinic within the program. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to demonstrate the practical skills needed to become a valuable veterinary assistant.

Career Outlook
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment in the veterinary assistant field is expected to grow 16 percent from 2019-2029, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. Veterinary assistants and laboratory animal caretakers work mainly in clinics, animal hospitals, and research laboratories. Their work may be physically and emotionally demanding.

Salaries vary depending on experience, hours, and location. Median annual wages of veterinary assistants were $28,590 in May 2019.

Requirements
Most employers prefer that veterinary assistants have a high school diploma or equivalent. Students must be able to lift 50 lbs with assist and 30 lbs individually.

The Patient Care Technician is a multi-disciplinary technical worker trained to provide basic nursing assistant care as well as other skilled functions. The role of the PCT includes duties traditionally performed by the staff from several different departments such as nursing, phlebotomy, and EKG. This is a 265-hour, three-part program which consists of the Nurse Assistant (CNA) Certificate Program, the EKG Technician Program, and the Phlebotomy Technician Program. This allows the PCT to learn the knowledge and skills of a nurse assistant in order to give direct patient care to his/her clients along with the advanced knowledge and skills of EKG and phlebotomy.

This program builds upon the basic nurse aid skills to create a person with advanced skills. To receive a Patient Care Technician Certificate, you must successfully complete the following:
         • Certified Nursing Assistant
         • Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician
         • Phlebotomy Technician       

After completing the program, students can take the certification exam from the National Health Career Association (NHA) and become a Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).

Certified Nursing Assistant - (Nurse Assistant - NAS 100)

• The Nurse Assistant course prepares qualified individuals to work as nursing assistants in long-term care facilities (nursing homes), home health settings and hospitals, under the direction of a registered nurse
• The course of study (165 hours of training) provides opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills used by nursing assistants
• Upon successful completion of the program, the student is eligible to take the Illinois Nurse Aide Test which is required for certification by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH)
• This course is approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health (The student will need to take a CPR course prior to starting the clinical experience of the course)

Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician

• The EKG technician course will include relevant practice and background information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, laboratory assisting, electrocardiography and echocardiography
• Additionally, students will practice with equipment and perform hands on labs including introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine, the normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12-lead placement and other clinical practices. This is a 50-hour course.

Phlebotomy Technician

• The Phlebotomy Technician course includes the health care system of the laboratory, anatomy and physiology of the body systems, institutional procedures such as infection control, patient care issues such as specimen collection and handling, and quality assurance and professional standards. This is a 100-hour course.

The Rehabilitation Aide program provides individuals with the knowledge and skills they need to safely and effectively provide rehabilitative/restorative therapies under the supervision of a physical therapist or occupational therapist. Aides assist therapists in moving patients, positioning patients for specific exercises, and supporting them in the performance of those exercises. Aides may be asked to perform other tasks, such as booking appointments, doing clerical work, keeping the therapy area safe and uncluttered, and maintaining equipment used in the therapy process. The Rehabilitation Aide works under close supervision of a physical therapist, occupation therapist or rehab team member to prepare the patient, administer treatment therapy and maintain treatment area. Other responsibilities will be to prepare, clean and maintain work area and disinfect equipment after treatment. The Rehab Aide will also transport patients to and from treatment areas, using wheelchairs or providing standing support. There may be duties to perform clerical duties; take inventory, order and stock supplies, answer telephone, take messages and complete forms.

This is a two part program which consists of a student completing the Nurse Assistant program and then the Physical Therapy Aide program in a sequential format.  The student will complete the Nurse Assistant program then enroll in the Physical Therapy Aide program to complete the Rehabilitation Aide Program. The Rehabilitation Aide Program builds upon the basic nurse aid knowledge to advance a student's skills.

NRS E19 – Instructor Course for RN’s Including Evaluator’s Workshop 
This course is designed for the RN who is interested in becoming an instructor for a basic nurse aide training program (BNATP). The course meets the requirements outlined in the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Long Term Care Assistants and Aides Training Program Code. This course includes the Evaluators Workshop component which will evaluate the student’s competency demonstration of selected performance skills.

This course is approved by the Ohio League for Nursing. Successful completion of the course will provide 34.25 CEUs.

Educational Requirements:

**IMPORTANT – INSTRUCTOR REQUIREMENTS: Effective July 14, 2016, participants must meet the qualifications outlined in the June 2013 Illinois Administrative Code Title 77, Section 395.160 Instructor Requirements AND found in Code of Federal Regulations, Title 42 Section 483.152 (a)(5)(i & ii).

Two years as a licensed RN and at least one year experience working at a long term care facility or on a skilled unit of a hospital. By definition a skilled unit of a hospital is a geriatric designated unit covered by Medicare.

RN Re-Entry Update (NRS-E88)

Program Details
Triton College offers a 12-week RN Re-entry program for RNs who have not actively practiced in recent years and wish to return to clinical practice. Participants may also use this course to aide in preparation to sit for the NCLEX or review and enhance their skills. The program will be held on campus in our state of the art nursing lab where students can gain hands on training.

Physical tasks include; continuous standing and walking; lifting 10-100 lbs. frequently and over 101 lbs. occasionally; carrying 10 -20 lbs. occasionally, pushing and pulling up to 101 lbs.
