Dispensary Technicians work in cannabis dispensaries, performing day to day operations, and work with customers to find the best products that suit their need. This certificate is useful for individuals planning to enter the cannabis industry. In addition to history, policy and laws related to cannabis, the certificate presents best practices in cannabis dispensary operations, and cannabis therapeutics. Students will also learn about the importance of advocacy within the cannabis industry.

The Carpentry Certificate is designed for students who wish to concentrate solely on hands-on construction skills. Graduates are prepared for entry-level carpentry positions in a residential setting.

 PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES:

 Upon successful completion of the Carpentry Certificate, the graduate will be able to:

• Identify safety hazards on construction sites
• Interpret drawings and specifications for construction projects
• Navigate modern codes to find project requirements
• Utilize appropriate forms in the construction, permit application and payout processes
• Build the rough framework of a residential project;
• Apply finish materials to the rough framework of a residential project

The A+ Microcomputer Technician certificate is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to obtain an entry-level position in the growing specialty of PC technical support. The courses parallel CompTIA’s A+ exam objectives.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the successful completion of the A+ Microcomputer Technician Certificate, the graduate will be able to:

• Describe the hardware and software components of a computer in order to understand their function, dependencies and interactions
• Repair and replace hardware components to fix problems with client PCs
• Install and configure Windows client operating system to prepare it for use
• Describe LAN/WAN topologies, protocols and terminology needed to design, configure and maintain a network
• Design and install a LAN to allow computers to communicate and share data
• Design network security to provide users appropriate access and protection against intrusions

Dental assistants provide quality preventative and corrective dental care under direct supervision of the dentist or dental hygienist. The dental assistant is responsible for assisting dentists and dental hygienists with patient care as well as providing certain administrative support to the office. Dental assistants work in a variety of health care settings including dentist offices, hospitals and other similar facilities. With the national increase in health care related services and the national shortage of health care professionals, the need for dental assistants is growing substantially. The 60-hour Dental Assisting Program prepares students for entry-level positions in one of the fastest growing health care positions – dental assisting. The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice.

EKG technicians are responsible for performing electrocardiogram tests in order to monitor and record electrical impulses transmitted by the heart. These tests include basic EKGs, Holter Monitoring (portable EKG which records activity for 24-48 hrs.), 12 lead placement and stress tests (treadmill). They assist a physician in diagnosing and treating cardiac and blood vessel irregularities. This comprehensive 60-hour EKG Technician Certification Program prepares students to function as EKG technicians and to take the NHA, National Healthcareer Association examination.

Designed for learners who wish to obtain gainful employment in a greenhouse growing operation that provides students with the training and necessary background to pursue a career in the cannabis industry, urban food production, and ornamental, tropical and herbaceous plant production. The Greenhouse Grow Operations Certificate is stackable into other Horticulture degrees and certificates allowing the opportunity to continue education in the discipline.

 PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon successful completion of the Greenhouse Grow Operations Certificate, the graduate will be able to:

• Describe life cycles and hosts of insects
• Identify the types of insect prevention and controls including sustainable practices
• Appropriately select and prepare various types of pesticides
• Discuss the environmental impact of pesticides
• Manage pathogenic organisms with various means, including Integrated Pest Management
• Explain sexual and asexual reproduction
• Demonstrate plant hybridization
• Identify problems associated with plant growth and development and recommend treatments

This 200-hour course offered over two semesters is designed for health care professionals, billing professionals, people interested in the business aspect of health care and office managers. This class prepares students for entry-level medical office positions. Students will learn to collect, analyze and manage the information that steers the health care industry. Training will be provided in insurance and medical claims processing in accordance with professional, legal and insurance industry standards.

This program is designed to get students ready to take the Cisco Certified Network Associate Certification Exam. Once completed, students will have the necessary requirements to begin a career in the IT field. Students will be introduced to the architectures, models, protocols, and networking elements to connect users, devices, applications and data through the Internet and across modern computer networks, including IP addressing and Ethernet fundamentals. Students will learn how to switch technologies and router operations that support small-to-medium business networks, including wireless local area networks (WLAN) and security concepts. Students will learn about wide area network (WAN) technologies and quality of service (QoS) mechanisms used for secure remote access along with the introduction of software-defined networking, virtualization, and automation concepts that support the digitalization of networks.

Designed to prepare nursing assistants to provide care in various health care settings under the direction of a registered nurse. The program includes development of fundamental nursing skills through lectures, laboratory activities and clinical experience. Students may also complete elective courses to gain knowledge and practical skills in ethical and legal responsibilities, medical terminology, venipuncture, and electrocardiography.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon successful completion of the Nurse Assistant Certificate, the graduate will be able to:

• Communicate accurately and appropriately, with all residents, families and staff relative to observations and care provided to residents
• Perform basic nursing skills as delineated within the scope of practice of the certified nursing assistant
• Safely perform personal care skills for residents to facilitate them meeting their basic needs
• Safely perform basic restorative skills to promote residents achieving their highest level of functioning
• Identify the psychological aspects of relocation, aging, loss, isolation, cognitive changes, and impending death
• Provide appropriate emotional and spiritual support to promote residents’ mental health and continued involvement in social activities

Pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of licensed pharmacists to perform technical duties in the systematic operation of the pharmacy – providing health care services and medications to patients. This 75-hour course will introduce students to various settings in pharmacy practice, including the community, hospital, managed care, mail order and long-term care. Information on qualifying for the pharmacy certification examination will be provided. Technicians may perform many of the same duties as pharmacists; however, all of a technician's work must be checked by a pharmacist before medicine can be dispensed to a patient. This program is designed to familiarize students with the role of the pharmacy technician and develop the skills required for assisting pharmacists. Instruction includes a review of mathematical principles as they apply to pharmacology, various disease states, basic physiology, pharmacy law, ethics, and the fundamentals of technician training. Emphasis will be given to pharmacology measurement, pharmacy abbreviations and generic medications, prescription processing and hands-on compounding techniques. Students are eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam post-completion of this course.

Phlebotomists are skilled health care professionals who have been trained to collect, transport, handle and process blood and other specimens for laboratory analysis using venipuncture and micro collection techniques. This course is designed for those interested in becoming phlebotomists, nurses, doctors, medical staff and anyone interested in the health care profession. The health care system of the laboratory, anatomy and physiology of the body systems, institutional procedures such as infection control, patient care issues such as specimen collection and handling, detailed content outline for certificate examination for phlebotomists and professionals including quality assurance and professional standards are covered. Phlebotomists must be able to identify and select equipment, supplies and additives used in blood collection and understand factors that affect specimen collection procedures and test results. Students will be required to complete 40 observation hours in order to successfully pass this course.

The Plumbing Certificate is designed for students who wish to concentrate solely on hands-on construction skills. Graduates are prepared for entry-level plumbing positions in a residential setting.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon successful completion of the Plumbing Certificate, the graduate will be able to:

• Identify safety hazards on construction sites
• Interpret drawings and specifications for construction projects
• Navigate modern codes to find project requirements
• Utilize appropriate forms in the construction, permit application and payout processes
• Install and repair rough-in plumbing work
• Install and repair finished plumbing work

The Engineering Technology/Welding Certificate program provides students with welding skills in a shop setting. Students are taught welding processes, such as ARC (Stick), Metal Inert Gas (MIG) and Tungsten Gas (TIG) welding, in various welding positions. In addition, students learn blueprints, other fabrication processes needed for employability and sheet metal layout/fabrication. Graduates find entry-level employment as entry level welders, solderers, and braziers, as well apprentice level industrial maintenance mechanics.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon successful completion of the Engineering Technology/Welding Certificate, the graduate will be able to:

• Demonstrate safety practices with welding tools and equipment
• Measure in inches and metric
• Identify elements of a blueprint
• Produce arc welds in the flat and horizontal positions using Oxyacetylene (MIG) and Tungsten Arc (TIG) welding processes
• Be able to use an Oxyacetylene torch
• Demonstrate use of basic math skills to facilitate technical competencies
